Model-Based Question

Okay, I'm curious of the whole model filetype thing, so allow me to elaborate.

As you know, I, like pretty much anyone else who had the same idea, wanted to play with Eric. Given that he wasn't in the character select screen, I had to do some fileswapping so Eric is in the place of the Wiener vendor. Pretty basic stuff, nothing too hard, blahblahblah, you get the idea. But the point here is, there were 5 files in said ped folder, pretty much named "Ped_(char).(ext).xbx", where "char" is the ped's name and "ext" serves as the extensions within that folder - said extensions being cas, col, skin, tex, usg, respectively.

Now, the main question is the following: How would one get custom models to work with those filetypes? As in, how would one port an outside model into the "THUG2 model types", and vice versa? What's the respective difficulty for such?

You can play as any existing Ped as a skater by file swapping, but you need to dummy skaterparts_secret.prx before you can file-swap, as far as converting other THPS Game characters, you would deal with some issues, the model format, that's one issue, then the skeleton design, no tool out there will aid you to properly converting characters, i know one way of adding other THPS Game characters/CAS clothing is changing textures using TEX2DDS and DDS2TEX

I see... but what about outside-source models? For example, Brawl (which uses MDL0)?

You can't use outsource models, but you can texture edit CAS items like i said with those textures, i did my skater/CAS item porting all by texture editing with the converters above, you can find them here if you want to try texture editing, they're in defeator.rar in sources.zip file, you need winrar or 7-zip for extracting RAR files, there's a source code of the converters, and the compiled converters in the same ZIP
