setup does not detect valid axis pair

i have an xbox 360 wireless controller. using microsoft's drivers, the sticks are recognized, but i am using x360wc drivers so i can map the trigger buttons and for other reasons. when i use these drivers, when i try to configure the sticks, it can't detect a valid axis pair.
they work fine in thps4
anyone have any ideas?
